i love this norwegian gothic apartment - the owner painted it black when her boyfriend dumped her! i can't imagine what other tragedies brought about the amazing furniture, piano, chandeliers and candelabras! via apartment therapy

there is a great interview of the belgian fashion designer ann demeulemeester on dazed digital, with more photos of her striking new jewelry line, like the piece above -

and photos from her 2009 collection on her site

malplaquet house

Our dream house is this 20 plus room mansion in London's East End. Built in the 1740's it has been preserved and decorated by the director of the Sir John Soane's Museum and a landscape architect. More beautiful photos at Barry Lewis Photography via hollister hovey and the architecturalist.

knock out cosmetics

i love the colors in this photo from knock out cosmetics - such a gorgeous combo of bright red lips, matte black nail polish and that lovely grayish blue in the fly tattoo -

cafe select

I really love this 'newish' cafe down on Lafayette - such a perfect place to share a cozy, winter's lunch. Feels just a bit like dining in a ski chalet in the Swiss Alps! I really want to try and make it for the Sunday fondue night special - with 2 shots of kirsch!

woodland hideaway - photos of mildred's lane

Some beautiful photos of the artist retreat Mildred's Lane from the book GREAT ESCAPES.

edmund dulac

I discovered the french illustrator, Edmund Dulac, at the Museum of Jurassic Technology in LA. He was a contemporary of Arthur Rackham and I imagine was a little overshadowed by him. I'm sorry he isn't more well known as his book illustrations are just lovely.

marie-antoinette + versailles

Lush and haunting photos of Versailles by Francois Halard's in this new publication MARIE-ANTOINETTE AND THE LAST GARDEN AT VERSAILLES.
